In praise of a nap

In a famous song by The Beatles, I’m Only Sleeping, John Lennon praised doing nothing. His love of sleep and wasting time is legendary. Modern science has proven that our brain becomes creative when … RESTING! If Lennon hadn’t rested, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy The Beatles’ music today. Why?

It has been scientifically proven that alpha and theta waves are active in our brains during a nap, and they also work during creativity training. This is when you let your mind work effectively when you rest. Remember when Newton discovered the law of gravitation? Resting in the orchard, not in the library or at work.

The biological clock doesn’t lie

You probably get tired during the day and want to sleep but go for a coffee instead. It is natural to suffer a drop in energy between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. because that is how our biological clock functions. That is why our neighbours south of the border so eagerly take advantage of the siesta – the time when they take a break from important duties. What do you do after lunch when you feel sleepy? You probably reach for a coffee. Unfortunately, by doing so, you prolong the natural state of weariness. Our body gives us clear signals that it’s time to rest twice a day – once in the afternoon and then again in the evening. Taking a nap during the day is the perfect solution to this problem. It shouldn’t last longer than 30 minutes because if it’s longer, we fall into a deep sleep. Waking up from such a state can cause even more fatigue and be counterproductive.

Siesta – yes!

The world is constantly accelerating. Capitalism has instilled in us that time is money. We are constantly in a hurry to go somewhere, and we are increasingly nervous and stressed. Instead of taking care of rest and adequate sleep, we work, organize something, or study. We have been taught to respect work but not ourselves. It is time to change.

Most of us cannot afford to take a nap during the day. What can you do in such a situation? How can you adjust your daily schedule to respect your biological clock? It is essential to plan your work in such a way that the most important duties can be performed by 1 p.m., and those tasks that are less crucial should be performed in the second part of the day. You can also close your eyes, take your mind off work, or listen to relaxing music. A great solution is to use a weighted band to help you relax, unwind, and regenerate. Just 15 minutes is enough to feel better!

Winston Churchill used to say, “Don’t think you will be doing less work because you sleep during the day. That’s a foolish notion held by people who have no imagination. You will be able to accomplish more. You get two days in one-well, at least one-and-a-half, I’m sure.” Therefore, take a few breaks at work today!

Nap and health

There is quite a bit of talk today about a healthy lifestyle. We take care of our diet, do sports, and quit bad habits, but then we forget that sleep is one of the pillars of our health. It has been scientifically proven that people who sleep during the day are less likely to suffer from diseases of the nervous system or a heart attack. Those who are not worried about their health will also benefit from a nap. We work more efficiently in the first part of the day, but we cannot keep it up all day long. It is worth noting that most accidents happen during the so-called low-performance time. More and more people are starting to see the benefits of rest. So when will you start taking naps?

Recipe for creativity – a nap

Give yourself a prescription for a nap, and it will become your ticket to happiness. You will immediately notice an improvement in your mood and better performance at work or at home. A short regeneration period and a moment for yourself, just to rest. It takes so little but offers so many benefits! Even a 15-minute nap will allow you to replenish the previous night’s shortage. People such as the aforementioned Churchill, Edison, Einstein, and many others had the habit of taking naps. It is worth the effort to join such a noble company. What are other benefits of sleeping during the day? You can see the effects of fatigue and weariness as your face turns pale, dark circles appear under your eyes, and your eyelids droop. Even one nap can change not only your mood but also your attractiveness. You will become more optimistic, less irritable, and more vibrant. A short period of sleep during the day is the cheapest drug on the market. And you have it within your power!
